My Screenshots-Desktops page: Some Desktops-Window managers for the Unix-Compatible world.
Note: Some browsers scale the images by default. Prefer to see them in their actual size.
Refer to GraphMe for Graphics mechanism, Desktop and Window Manager definitions and information.
All Desktops - WMs here, run in the X Window System 6.8.1 from the X.org team. Goto http://www.xwinman.org for more information on this issue.
My Desktop! Gnome desktop, Terminal, Gimp and net browse Blackbox Eterm & Xplanet The Enlightenment Window Manager IceWM
Window Maker FVWM FVWM XFCE Twm and applications
Kde 3.3.1 with Konsole and Gqmpeg.
The Kde panel includes the program menu, icon shortcuts, Desktops pager, Taskbar and Traybar.
Gnome screenshot! Desktop, Gimp, Terminal & Net browse. GNU Network Object Model Environment is being developed since 1997. Net browse is showing my Samba servers running in Linux boxes.
Blackbox, one of the lightest modern Window Managers, is here configured to operate 4 desktops. The Blackbox menu is entirely textual. Xplanet runs in the root window (think active wallpaper) rendering real time.
Enlightenment is the Window Manager Giger's Lee is looking at us through. Version here is 0.16.7.1.
My Enlightenment is configured to run 2 desktops 2 screens each one. Here running Aterm and browsing backgrounds. Kmail is minimized in the iconbox (bottom right) and Xterm is shaded (only window title active) on the top right.
IceWM is a fine Window Manager which can work with Kde and Gnome. Here with a very beautiful skin.
The applications can be shaded also. IceWM has some "desktop" features (e.g. desktop icons) that are not seen in the screenshot and will not be until I check this issue thoroughly.
Window Maker was originally designed to provide integration support for the GNUstep Desktop Environment in every way possible. It reproduces the look & feel of the NextStep User Interface and can be used inside the KDE and GNOME Desktops instead of their internal Window Manager. Here, Preferences is minimized and Xterm is shaded. As you see, the tree manu can undock and stay on screen.
FVWM is (as you already see) a minimalistic WM. The minimized windows do not appear as icons at all.
FVWM95 is resembling a little to the Redmond 95 style but without Desktop objects as it is still a WM.
XFCE is a very practical Desktop. Its native file manager is here shaded.
Here, Taskbar (top) and Panel (bottom) are separated.
TWM - An entirely retro screenshot! The Tab Window Manager looks rather old for the current standards but comes with the X package by default. Xterm, XCalc Xclock and Xfm (old file and program manager) are running. Xpdf, Xcam & Xedit are minimized. Xcalc, Xclock and Xedit use the simple Athena toolkit.
