Four years ago, it was Easter 1994, I had the idea to send a newsletter to all my friends. I had just retired from my post in Mesolonghi as Director of Health and we, my wife Vassiliki and I, had returned to Athens. A serious turn. I opened a painter studio. Many friends, even relatives, had lost us. I bought a computer and tested it as a publishing appliance. And, as I was writing in that first “Letter”, I wanted to try my capabilities in publishing and graphics, to distribute texts, which I liked, and some nice pictures. In one word, I felt the need to do something like that... The purchase of a scanner, a printer and the subscription to the Internet came later.
In the “Letter no.1” I had put the engraving of Duerer "Christ on the Cross” and excerpts from the book by Nikos Dimou “The way of communication", from the poems “Philosophy of the flowers” by Nikiforos Vrettakos. Also contributions from young poets, namely the “Sunflowers” by Yannis Asimakopoulos and “To a saleswoman of plaster-panels ” by Kleon Pendrinos. Those titles can be seen as translated by me. Click on each title.
Now, having reached the 24th “Letter”, I thought of you, unknown or known subcriber of the Internet. Probably you would like to see these pages, too, and some of their links. I also hope that you might send me something (text or link or picture) to be included in the next number of this Letter or give me the URL of your page, if you have one. Anyhow I will always include a small collection with links to sites that I found interesting, nice or amazing.
I plan to update this pages regularly using texts from old numbers of the paper “Gramma” and contemporary comments. The english version will differ a little from the greek, since you probably would like more unknown greek subjects, whereas greek visitors would prefer international information.
So the chain of communication would be multiplied and the great and splendid idea of the woldwide net would be justified more, especially in its private and cultural part. You can try also the greek version. Greek is so interesting, if you insist a little!
Please write. Feedback is the essence of it.
